[Tradition] Hail〈Sumiiro〉

This simple traditional Japanese pattern expresses arare (grain hail). Large and small arare patterns are dyed all over the white fabric. The arare pattern is never interrupted, so it is imbued with the meaning of infinite prosperity. It was also used on the kamishimo (traditional Japanese kimono) worn by men of samurai families. It is still a popular Edo komon pattern today. The color is violet, a color that looks almost dreary, like sesame ohagi (rice cake with sesame seeds). Combined with the soft look of the chusen dyeing, this hand towel has a very Japanese feel.
