[Tradition] Hail〈Sumiiro〉

This simple, ancient Japanese pattern depicts hail. Large and small hail patterns are dyed all over the white fabric. The hail pattern is never-ending, so it symbolizes infinite prosperity. It was also used on the kamishimo (formal formal attire) worn by men of the samurai class. It remains a popular Edo komon pattern today. The color is violet, a delicate color reminiscent of sesame ohagi (rice cakes). Combined with the soft look of the chusen dyeing, this tenugui has a very Japanese feel.
