[Tradition] Willow and swallow (Awa shijiraori)★Indigo dyeing
It is said that houses in which swallows nest will bring good fortune and will not catch fire. Also, because swallows eat insects that harm human crops, they are considered messengers of the grain god.
Awa Shijira (Fabric): Natural indigo dye has an insect repellent effect and has been widely used since ancient times. It is said that the name "indigo" came from the dried fermented indigo produced in India that was sent by Arab merchants in the Middle Ages to Europe. Around 1900, the production of synthetic indigo was established in Germany, and it was imported to Japan in the Meiji period under the name "vat dye", and became popular as a substitute for natural indigo for hand towels and yukata.
This is a masterpiece dyed with a rich navy blue and lustrous "indigo". Take a look at the stylish navy blue that was once popular. It is a very deep and inconvenient (see below) tenugui that is hard to come by anymore.
[★Please note: This product is dyed with "real vat dyes." The color will fade quickly at first, and will transfer to other items when washed. Therefore, please wash the item separately. Also, when new, the color may transfer to white fabric even if it is in contact with the fabric for a long time. After washing about 10 times, the color will gradually settle. We hope you will enjoy the aging process as if you were raising vintage denim.]
